Predicting yield of wheat genotypes at different salinity by artificial neural network

Abstract
For examining efficiency of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for prediction of yield in wheat, a factorial experiment was set out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications in a glasshouse. The treatments were included of four saline solutions and 8 wheat genotypes. This paper shows the ability of artificial neural network (ANN) technology to be used for the prediction of yield and yield components of 8 wheat genotypes for different salinity levels. Based on analysis of variance, salinity had significant effect on all traits, as salinity levels increased, yield and 1000-grain weight and K+ concentrations decreased. The results showed that a very good performance of the ANN model was achieved. Some explanation of the predicted results is given. The ANN with training algorithm of back propagation was the best one for creating of nonlinear mapping between input and output parameters. The ANN model predicted the six yields and yield components with mean R2 and T values of 0.977 and 0.97 respectively. Furthermore, the predictions of ANN model were compared with those obtained from six multi-linear regression (MLR) models. It was found that ANN model has better predictions than the MLR models for the experimental data.

Germinability and seedling vigour of physic nut (Jatropha curcas L.) seeds inoculated with seed-borne fungi

Abstract
Germinability and seedling vigour of physic nut (Jatropha curcas L.) seeds inoculated with Aspergillus flavus and Rhizopus nigricans were investigated in a germination chamber and in plastic pots in a screen house at Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna. The seeds were pre-inoculated with the fungi for 72 h and 0 h before sowing and compared with those applied with Seedplus® 30WS fungicide. The experiment which involved completely randomised design had eight treatments in three replicates. It was confirmed in the germination chamber that seeds inoculated with A. flavus + R. nigricans for 72 h before sowing had the lowest percentage germination (20%) at 8 DAS while the uninoculated seeds (control) had the highest (87%). In the pot at 20 DAS, seeds applied with combined A. flavus and R. nigricans for 72 h before sowing had the least seedling vigour index (0.38) while the uninoculated control had the highest vigour index (1.89). Though the presence of A. flavus + R. nigricans on physic nut seeds adversely affected germination and seedling vigour, seed-dressing with Seedplus® significantly reduced the pathogenic effect of the fungi. There is need for confirmation of this experiment under field condition in different agroecological conditions.

Abstract
Through photosynthesis green plants transform luminous energy, CO2, water and ground minerals into carbohydrates with O2 as residuum. Production in plants depends on the level of absorbed nutrients and their capability to process them through photosynthesis. Measuring this process allows predictive maintenance directed to optimize the development and production of the plants. Many photosynthesis measurement methods exist, but given the natural rapidness of this phenomenon, optical techniques appear to be the clue to quantify it in real time. This review describes different optical techniques applied to photosynthesis measurement, commenting on their principal advantages and limitations.

Input-output energy analysis of citrus production in Mazandaran province of Iran

Abstract
In this study, the citrus (orange and mandarin) production in Mazandaran province of Iran and the energy equivalences of input used in this production are investigated. Data in this study was obtained from 110 citrus orchards by a face to face questionnaire method. The results revealed that mandarin production had more energy intensive compared to orange. The major energy inputs in orange and mandarin production were diesel fuel (27 and 24%), chemical fertilizers (22 and 23%) and irrigation water (21 and 23%), respectively. The results showed that 62375.18 MJ ha-1 energy were consumed by orange orchards and 77501.17 MJ ha-1 by mandarin orchards. Energy use efficiency, energy productivity, specific energy, and net energy gain were calculated. The energy use efficiency for orange and mandarin were 0.99 and 0.77, respectively. In average, the non-renewable form of energy input was 67.14% of the total energy input used in citrus production compared to 33.07% for the renewable form. Optimal consumptions of diesel fuel, chemical fertilizers and other major inputs would be useful techniques for decreasing energy consumption in citrus production.

Abstract
This essay briefly introduces why acaricides are in great need and the classification of them. A screening for acaricidal activity of extracts with some known medicinal organisms attributes could lead to the discovery of new agents for pest control. So we put forward 3 kinds of biological acaricides, namely: botanical acaricides, microbiological acaricides and animal-based acaricides and compare their advantages and disadvantages with each other. We discuss their applications and research progress, and introduced present situation and future trends of biological acaricides finally.

Rabbit technologies: Adoption studies in the Ashanti Region of Ghana

Abstract
The study focused on identifying the main factors affecting the adoption of technologies in the rabbit industry. Data was collected through the use of the snowball sampling technique. The stocking technology was the highest adopted technology by the rabbit farmers. There is a clear evidence to prove that overall adoption of rabbit technologies among rabbit farmers was low. Adoption of rabbit technologies was dependent on age, marital status, type of farming and main purpose of entering the rabbit business. Majority of the respondents were faced with time constraints in rabbit technology adoption. Technology oriented programmes must still be organised and intensified among rabbit farmers since overall adoption among rabbit farmers was low.
