Editorial Process
Introduction
The editorial process at the African Journal of Agriculture and Food Security (AJAFS) is designed to ensure the integrity, quality, and relevance of the research we publish. Our aim is to facilitate a fair and transparent review process that upholds the highest academic standards.
Submission of Manuscripts
Authors are invited to submit their original research manuscripts through our online submission system. All submissions must adhere to our guidelines, which include formatting, length, and citation style. Upon submission, authors will receive a confirmation email acknowledging receipt of their manuscript.
Initial Screening
Once a manuscript is submitted, our editorial team conducts an initial screening to determine its suitability for the journal. This process includes checking for originality, relevance to the journal's scope, and compliance with submission guidelines. Manuscripts failing to meet these criteria may be returned to the authors without further review.
Peer Review Process
If the manuscript passes the initial screening, it is assigned to at least two independent reviewers with expertise in the relevant field. The peer review process is double-blind, meaning that both authors and reviewers remain anonymous to each other. Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on criteria such as originality, methodology, significance of results, and clarity of presentation.
Decision Making
After receiving feedback from the reviewers, the editorial team considers their comments and recommendations. The possible decisions include:
Accept: The manuscript is accepted for publication with no further changes.
Minor Revisions: The manuscript requires small adjustments before it can be accepted.
Major Revisions: Significant changes are needed, and the authors are invited to revise and resubmit the manuscript.
Reject: The manuscript does not meet the journal’s standards for publication.
Authors will be notified of the decision, along with the reviewers' comments, regardless of the outcome.
Revisions and Resubmissions
If revisions are requested, authors will be given a specified timeframe to make the necessary changes and submit a revised version. The revised manuscript may be sent back to the original reviewers for further evaluation, depending on the extent of the revisions.
Final Acceptance and Publication
Once the manuscript is accepted, authors will receive a final acceptance email. The article will undergo typesetting and formatting before being published online. Authors will have the opportunity to review proofs to ensure accuracy prior to publication.

The editorial process at AJAFS is designed to maintain the highest standards of scholarly publishing. We are committed to providing a rigorous yet supportive environment for authors, ensuring that valuable research in agriculture and food security reaches the global community.
