A study to determine the locations and minimize the distance between potential clients and overhaul facilities in Serbia

Abstract

This paper focus on the problem related to the choice of optimal locations for overhaul facilities intended for maintenance of efficient operation of agricultural mechanization in the western part of South Backa region (24 settlements), Vojvodina, Republic of Serbia. Distance between the settlements in the observed region, as well as the number of hours required for the maintenance of agricultural mechanization were considered. The number of hours required was determined based on the sowing structure typical for that region and on the month with the most extensive use of mechanization (critical month). Well known p-median problem, used for locating problem solving, has been modified here. The optimization was carried out in two steps. First, the number and position of overhaul facilities were determined, and then, the settlements and percentage of services they would require from a particular overhaul facility, were determined as well. This minimizes transport costs and time necessary for agricultural mechanization overhauling.
